Fact:AttheendoftheSino-JapaneseWar(1894-1895),JapanseizedtheDiaoyuIslands.ItforcedtheQinggovernmenttosigntheTreatyofShimonoseki(《马关条约》)andgiveup“theTaiwanIslandsandtheiraffiliatedislands”.

AttheendofWorldWarII,theCairoDeclarationandthePotsdamProclamationruledthatChinarecoveredTaiwan,thePenghuIslandsandotherterritoriesJapanhadoccupiedbefore.TheDiaoyuIslandswerereturnedtoChinaaccordingtointernationallaw.
