It’smyhonortotalkaboutmyteachingideaswithyou.TodaymytopicisWomenofAchievement.Mypresentationconsistsofsixparts:theanalysisofteachingmaterialandstudent,teachingaims,keyanddifficultpoints,teachingandstudyingmethod,teachingproceduresandblackboarddesign.
First,let’sfocusontheanalysisofteachingmaterial.ThislessonisfromNewSeniorEnglishforChinaStudent’sBook4Unit1,thereadingpart.ThemaintopicofthepassageistheintroductionofastudentofAfricanwildlife.Afterthislesson,thestudentswilllearnmoreinformationaboutherstudyingchimpsinAfrica,andtheirreadingandspeakingabilitiescanbedevelopedaswell.
Thenextpartistheanalysisofstudents.Mystudentsareinseniorhighstudents.TheyhavelearntEnglishformanyyears,they’veknownmanywordsandsentences,buttheirspeakingandreadingabilitiesarestillnotverygood.SoIwillpracticetheirspeakingandreadingabilitiesthroughdifferentexercises.
AccordingtotheNewStandardCurriculumandthepresentsituation,Isettheteachingaimsasfollows:firstly,knowledgeaims.Studentscangraspsomenewwords,suchasworthwhile,moveoff.Moreover,studentscanunderstandthecontentofthepassageandgetfamiliarwiththetopicofstudyingchimpsinwildlife.Secondly,abilityaims.Studentscanusereadingstrategiessuchasskimmingandscanninginreadingprocess.Thirdly,emotionalaims.Studentscanhavetheawarenessofprotectinganimalsandcareaboutanimals.

Thenlet’scometothemostimportantpart-teachingprocedures.Thefirststepiswarmingup.I’dliketohaveaguessinggamewithmystudents.AndIwilldescribeseveralfamouswomenandstudentsneedtoguesswhotheyare.Aftertheguessinggame,Iwillsummarizethecommonfeaturesofthosewomenandtellstudentstheyarewomenofachievements.Inthisactivity,students’interestsarearousedandthetopicofthisunitcanbeleadinnaturally.Thesecondstepispre-reading.Iwillpresentsomekeywords,picturesandthetitleofthispassagetoaskstudentstopredictwhatthepassageistalkingabout,whichcantraintheirabilityofprediction.Andit’salsogoodformetomovetonextstepnaturally.Thethirdstepiswhile-reading.Firstofall,Iwillgivestudents5minutestohaveafastreadingofthispassagewithtwotasks.Thefirsttaskistoskimthepassagequicklyandcheckwhethertheirpredictionisrightandsummarizingthemainideaofthispassage.Thesecondtaskistoscanthepassageandanswertwoquestions:1.Whoistheprotector?2.Whatanimalswereobserved?3.WhatdidJanearrivedinGombe?Thosetwotaskscanhelpstudentstopracticetheabilityofskimmingandscanning.Forthecarefulreadingpart,Iwillletmystudentsreadthepassagecarefullyandthenfillinthechart.Afterthis,wewillhaveacompetitionofT/Fquestions.EachstudenttriestotellwhetherthesentencesareT/Fassoonaspossibleinordertogainpointsfortheirgroup.Ifhetellstherightanswer,hecangetonepoint.Ifthestatementiswrongandhecantellthereason,hecangetdoubleofthestars.Afterallthosereadingprocess,studentswillhaveadeeperunderstandingofthepassage.Andtheirsenseofcooperationandcompetitionaretrainedaswell.Theforthstepispost-reading.FirstIwillpresentsomekeywordsandphrasesofthispassageandmakemystudentsguessthemeaningofthemandthenIwillexplainthosewordsandphrasesbygivingexamples.ThenIwillaskstudenttoworkingroupoffouranddiscuss“whatcanwelearnfromJane?”.Throughthisactivity,studentscanmasterthekeypointsandtraintheircriticalthinking.Thefifthstepissummaryandhomework.Bytheendofclass,I’dliketomakeasummarywithmystudentstoretellthestoryaccordingtothekeywordspresentedontheppt.Andthehomeworkforstudentistosearchmoreinformationaboutgreatwomenandchooseonetomakeaposter.Throughthissection,studentscanreviewwhatwehavelearnedtodayandextendtheirlearningtothesecondclassroom.
