Inthe21stcentury,oneofthemostseriousproblemswearefacingisprobablytheenergycrisis.Withthedevelopmentoftechnology,wehavecreatedapowerfulenergysource,whichisbothefficientandlowingreenhousegasEmissions,nuclearenergy.Nodoubt,nuclearenergydoesprovideuswithalotofbenefits,therearehowever,manyriskswhichcomewithusingit.
Themajorityoftherisksinvolveradiation.Asweallknow,nuclearenergyreleasesmassesofradiationwhichcancausefataldisasters.Forinstance,theChernobylNuclearDisasterandtheFukushimanuclearmeltdown.Disasterssuchasthesehavechangedourattitudestowardsnuclearenergy.
Anothermajorriskcomesfromnuclearweapons.Asinglenuclearmissilecandestroyanentirecityandcausemillionsofdeaths.DuringWorldWarⅡ,inordertowinthewar,countrieslikeRussiacreatedenoughmissilestodestroythewholeworld.
Inordertoprotecthumanbeings,manycountrieshavealreadytakenmeasurestocontrolnuclearenergy.InstitutionslikeTheInternationalAtomicEnergyAgencyaredevotedtostrengtheningtheimplementationofsafeguards.Inmypointofview,nuclearenergyisariskbutaswearefacinganenergyshortage,itisthebestsolutionwecurrentlyhaveavailable.Ibelievewithgreateffortandresponsibility,nuclearenergycanbewellcontrolledandcontinuetoservetheworld.
